Building community with Space and Stairs

space is a powerful tool to boost engagement, spark innovation, and increase productivity. But what makes a space truly great? In the Science of Space, we learn that thoughtful design can turn any workspace into a holistic experience. But what if I told you that to build a community, all we need is a staircase? Interesting, right?😲

Building community with stairs is an age-old concept that has proven effective in fostering connections among people. For example:

  • In ancient Rome, the Spanish Steps were not just a passageway but a social hub where citizens gathered, interacted, and formed bonds.
  • The grand staircases in ancient Greek amphitheaters were designed to facilitate movement while also encouraging socializing and a sense of community among spectators.

The strategic placement and design of stairs can create communal spaces that bring people together, fostering a sense of belonging and interaction.

With that concept in mind, our founder aimed to build our Innovation Stairs in Tink Tank Campbell. This thoughtful design makes it an iconic space for building our coworking community and bridging it with the residents of Campbell!

Originally designed to be a central hub for our community, we also use the space for:

  • Conference space
  • Networking events and workshops
  • A cozy spot for public viewings (By the way, where are you watching the Euro Cup from? ⚽️)
  • Open creative meeting space
  • Spontaneous coffee chats ☕️

We host people outside our members or the Campbell community. We have people coming in and out of our space for various uses and purposes. At Tink Tank, people always linger on the stairs or in our community kitchen after work. The community cares about each other, and as they spend more time in the space, we can all witness that. And that’s something indescribable.

However, a coworking space is just a space without people in it. Only a strong community can transform a coworking space from just a place to work into a vibrant hub of innovation and creativity. And that’s where we are headed, and yes, we are taking the stairs! 😉
